Norwich City Opinion: Why the Canaries should snap up Charlie Gilmour?

According to a report from the Scottish Sun, Norwich City have agreed on a deal to sign young midfielder Charlie Gilmour from Arsenal.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who has been at Arsenal since the age of six, is set to become a free agent this summer. He never quite made the grade at the Emirates, despite being highly rated, although he did make two appearances in the Europa League last season for the Gunners on their way to the final in Baku.

That being said, Norwich City are doing the right thing by snapping up Charlie Gilmour.

Daniel Farke

The newly-promoted Canaries have already snapped up Patrick Roberts on a season-long loan from Manchester City and teenager Daniel Adshead for around £300,000 from Rochdale.

Daniel Farke was able to guide the Norfolk club to the Championship title last season by recruiting smartly and giving young players a chance and it seems he is going to continue in the same vein in the Premier League.

It is difficult for Norwich to fight with bigger clubs in the transfer window with a tight budget and hence, signing talented young players with high potential is the way forward for Farke and company.

The Canaries boss wants to bring in Charlie Gilmour, who may not be a world beater the Norwich fans would love to have next season but he is a player brimming with confidence and potential.

Gilmour has won caps Scotland from Under-15s to Under-19s and also played for England’s Under-16s and 17s. He has plenty to offer at the highest after managing just two appearances for Arsenal under Unai Emery last season.

Charlie Gilmour

Able to play in central midfield or a slightly more defensive role, Gilmour combines his technique and passing range to dictate the tempo of the game. He likes to play with a sense of directness and conviction and often passes forward in a bid to keep his team on the front foot.

The fact that he has already played for Scotland and England’s youth teams clearly indicate that he is rated very highly across Britain.

Daniel Farke has shown an inclination to promote young blood since arriving at the Carrow Road a few years ago and the Canaries have had plenty of success with such a policy.

The German manager has managed the extract the best out of Ben Godfrey, Jamal Lewis, Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell, as he continues to build a strong core of homegrown talents at the Carrow Road.

Verdict

Gilmour is one such talent and Norwich could have another gem in their hands if they manage to snap up the promising 20-year-old this summer.
