Why Amin Younes would be a real coup for Norwich City
According to Italian football website Arena Napoli (h/t The Pink Un), Norwich City are keeping tabs on German playmaker Amin Younes, who currently plies his trade with Napoli in the Italian Serie A.
The report adds that the 26-year-old attacking midfielder is available for a loan move this month and Norwich have expressed an interest in acquiring his services, although they are reluctant to match the €2.5million loan fee demanded by Napoli.
Younes, who was one of the driving forces behind Germany’s triumphant campaign at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, has also attracted interest from other clubs like Torino and Espanyol. (h/t Pink Un)
The Dusseldorf-born winger has struggled for regular minutes since switching to Napoli from Dutch heavyweights Ajax back in the summer of 2018. Younes played a bit-part role in his first season at the club but has fallen completely out of favour this term, having started only once in the Serie A so far.
A youth exponent of German club Borussia Monchengladbach, Younes made his mark in the first-team at his boyhood club after spending considerable time with the reserves. However, a lack of regular opportunities paved the way for a move to Ajax back in 2015 and the winger went on to play in the 2016-17 Europa League final against Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Norwich City have already completed some significant business in the winter market after a rather quiet summer transfer window. The Canaries have bolstered their creative department with a loan deal for Ondrej Duda from Hertha Berlin while Lukas Rupp has also been roped in to add more depth to the central midfield cavalry.
Duda, who started in the No.10 role behind Teemu Pukki against Bournemouth on Saturday, made an immediate impact as the Canaries rallied on to secure all three points with a 1-0 victory over their relegation rivals.
With the likes of Watford and Southampton steering themselves clear of the relegation dogfight following a string of useful results, Norwich’s bid for survival looks a lot more difficult right now.
Verdict
Norwich certainly seem more potent with Ondrej Duda playing in a No.10 role but Amin Younes would add more to the forward line.
The likes of Todd Cantwell and Emiliano Buendia have been the major goal contributors alongside top-scorer Pukki but with Onel Hernandez, Josip Drmic, Marco Stiepermann and Dennis Srbeny failing to live up to the expectations, Younes would provide some quality cover in the final third.
A right-footed wide player, the German international is a left-winger by trade but he has illustrated the versatility to play in a No.10 role and also on the right flank.
Younes has managed only 23 appearances for Napoli so far but his impressive record of 17 goals and 25 assists in 100 appearances for Ajax speaks volumes of his pedigree as a creative outlet in the final third.

Having said that, Norwich City completing a loan deal to bring Amin Younes to Carrow Road before the January deadline would be a piece of shrewd business.
