Chelsea Opinion: Marco Asensio will be a huge addition to the Blues’ ranks
According to a recent report by The Sun, Maurizio Sarri’s Russian-oil powered Chelsea side are said to looking at the possibility of signing Real Madrid prodigy Marco Asensio. With the Blues hierarchy dealing with the real possibility of losing Eden Hazard in the summer, the young Spaniard is being listed as one of the possible replacements.
While the report suggests that they are also interested in Edinson Cavani, Philippe Coutinho and Wilfried Zaha, Asensio has the right kind of footballing attitude to ably replace their prolific Belgian. While a ready-replacement for Hazard certainly isn’t present in world football today, Marco Asensio could be a fairly reasonable shout.
Chelsea’s impending transfer ban will also play a huge part in the manner in which they conduct their business this summer. While an implementation of the ban would mean that the Blues cannot utilise the transfer market to acquire any new resources, the added headache of Hazard’s departure could prove to be a fatal blow.
Eden Hazard has been at the heart of everything positive that has gone down at Stamford Bridge this season and with the Europa League still hanging in the balance, he could well deliver another trophy before his proposed move to Spain.
The Belgian’s creativity has been the Blues’ biggest attacking source and they do not possess the squad to challenge for the league without him.
The addition of Marco Asensio could come as massive motivation to this stuttering Chelsea side. Although he’s still quite young, he boasts exceptional maturity when he picks up the ball and is even a danger when running into spaces from midfield.
His movement in and around the final third have been one of the features Real Madrid’s play over the last couple of seasons and because he’s struggled to make a real impact this term, this could be the ideal time for him to move onto another challenge.
