Tottenham Opinion: Why Spurs should go all out to sign David Brooks?

Christian Eriksen has admitted that he’s considering leaving Tottenham during this summer’s transfer window.

The Denmark international, 27, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for some time now and he polished his credentials further with another strong campaign for Spurs. The classy playmaker, who has just a year left on his Tottenham contract, expressed his desire of moving sooner rather than later.

Spurs cannot afford to allow Eriksen to run down his deal and leave as a free agent next summer, given his high value at arguably the peak of his career. So the ideal scenario for Mauricio Pochettino and the club would be to cash in on the Dane and replace him with an exciting, young and hungry talent.

Of course, Pochettino will struggle to replace a player of Eriksen’s class, yet he needs to scour the market for his replacement. That being said, a move for Bournemouth’s David Brooks could be perfect for Spurs. Tottenham have already been linked with David Brooks, and they should now step up their attempts to sign the Welshman.

Brooks, 21, was a revelation at Bournemouth in 2018/19 campaign since signing from Sheffield United last summer. He had an excellent debut season in the Premier League where he scored seven goals and supplied five assists in 30 games. To ward off potential interest from the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United, the Welsh midfielder put pen to paper on a new long-term deal in March.

However, that must not deter Spurs in making a move for the 21-year-old. Considering the fact that Tottenham have now gone two transfer windows without making a signing, it’s pretty obvious they are expected to sign players this summer.

They lack depth in the squad and with Eriksen very likely to leave, Daniel Levy must loosen the purse strings after Pochettino guided Spurs to their first Champions League final.

David Brooks

Thus, Spurs must make a statement of intent ahead of the new season by signing Brooks. A technically gifted attacking midfielder who can also play out wide, the Wales international will add pace, creativity and a different dimension to Spurs’ attack.

Playing in behind Harry Kane and alongside the likes of Son Heung-min and Dele Alli will undoubtedly help develop his technical and tactical qualities.

Brooks works tirelessly off the ball and helps his team snatch back possession as quickly as possible. He presses the opposition and never stops running throughout the game, something which will make him a fantastic fit in Pochettino’s system at Spurs.

Verdict

Brooks has shown his quality at Bournemouth and is only going to improve with time. Truly, he’s got the skill and talent to thrill Tottenham fans for years to come.
