Dallas Cowboys are the most valued team in sports history. Jerry Jones’ side is not an NFL side, but its value has broken all charts which were ever set. Safe to say, whether this team, which is comprises of Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons playing or not, they have always been a part of any conversation.

What’s even universal? They are one team that you can either love with all of your heart or you simply can’t stand them one bit. Their loyal fan base either witnesses them lose or are beyond the seventh sky when they win.

However, they are also known as ‘America’s Team,’ something which perhaps triggers a lot of football fans. You didn’t know this? Why are they called this? Let’s take a detailed look into this in this article.

What are Dallas Cowboys nicknamed?

Dallas Cowboys are considered to be ‘America’s Team’ courtesy to NFL Films and Bob Ryan. To those who are not aware of who Bob is – he is the former editor-in-chief who would later become NFL Films’ Vince President. When Bob was putting together the team’s 1978 highlights and snippets – he wanted to write some copy for the video’s narration.

During the editing process, he noticed that, in road games, there were still a lot of people in the stands wearing Cowboys’ hats and jerseys and T-shirts and such. So, Bob Ryan decided right then and there to start calling them ‘America’s Team,’ as he later told the NFL Network.

“I saw all these fans in away stadiums. Hey, they’re the most popular team in the country. How can I use that? Why don’t we call them ‘America’s Team?’”

Originally Tom Landry wasn’t 100% sure of the nickname but during the CBS broadcast, Dallas Cowboys began using it at the start of the 1979 season, this is just what was caught on camera. So, that is just how this nicknamed got attached and has been stuck to it ever since.
