“I don’t think this is a decision that surprised anybody”- ESPN Insider believes Matt Rhule getting fired was imminent

The Carolina Panthers have had a miserable start to the 2022-23 season. After boasting a result of 1-4, it seems like the management has had enough of the top tier. Because of which, they fired coach Matt Rhule on Monday less than three seasons into a seven-year $62 million contract.

After firing Matt Rhule, defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has been named as the interim coach for Carolina Panthers. Moreover, the Panthers went onto take some serious measures, resulting in them firing defensive coordinator Phil Snow as well. Defensive run game coordinator Al Holcomb will replace snow.

Even after registering a win in this season, Matt Rhule’s total tally was 11-27. Which surely made NFL Insider, Adam Schefter revealed his true feelings on the matter. Adam was unsurprised at this move and thought such a measure was bound to take place sooner rather than later.

Matt Rhule gets fired by Carolina Panthers

Matt Rhule had pretty impressive performances at college level with Baylor and Temple. Which forced Carolina Panthers to gain him in 2020 to turn the fate around for the team. However, such expectations were never fulfilled by Rhule.

Given that Matt Rhule could never get the best out of Baker Mayfield, who had been gained by the team in the recently concluded offseason, it seemed like an obvious reality bound to take place. So perhaps, Adam Schefter is right.

That being said, this change leaves the Panthers out in the open. They are already at a depleted tally of 1-4 in 5 games. Standing in the last spot at their respective division, will they be able to turn around the tie in their favor after this? Remains to be an interesting story to monitor.
