Davante Adams tells Green Bay he won’t play under franchise tag in 2022

Five-time Pro Bowler Davante Adams has reportedly informed the Green Bay Packers that he has no intention of playing for the franchise under the franchise tag in 2022.

Earlier on Monday, reports from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network claimed that Davante Adams will not be playing for the Packers under the franchise tag for the upcoming season. It is believed that the wide receiver wants a long-term contract with the team but the two parties are not close to coming towards any agreement.

The Packers placed a reported $20 million tag on Adams ahead of the March 8 deadline after contract negotiations fell apart. But the issue now is that Adams is unwilling to play for the team under that tag.

Will Davante Adams play for the Green Bay Packers in 2022?

Soon after offering Aaron Rodgers a blockbuster deal, which initially looked unlikely, the Packers have now been dealt with another player. His future at the franchise looks in jeopardy in the form of Davante Adams.

Adams and the Packers will have until July 15 to strike a deal or else the receiver will enter the 2022 campaign on the franchise tag. However, Adams isn’t obligated to attend the pre-season training camp or any of the team workout sessions unless he signs a deal with the team.

And this is where the problem lies. Adams played out the remainder of his four-year, $58 million extensions in 2021. He managed to finish third in the NFL in receiving yards (1,553) and fifth in receiving touchdowns (11). But he wants a long-term deal with the Packers. He wants to play for the franchise shortly.

At 29, Adams is arguably at the peak of his football career and will certainly be demanding a mega contract. There are also no shortage of suitors for the WR. However, the Packers will need to make a swift decision.
