The Denver Broncos will be closely monitoring a few quarterbacks at the NFL Combine in a bid to bolster their roster.
With on-field workouts of the NFL Combine set to begin from Thursday, a clearer picture of which players NFL teams are narrowing in on will take shape.
But the Denver Broncos are firmly in the market for a quarterback. Even the franchise GM George Paton has hinted that the Broncos will be keeping tabs on some of the top QBs in action during the NFL Combine.
Why do the Broncos want a star QB?
Anyone who watches the NFL knows that if you don’t have a top-quality quarterback, you stand almost no chance of winning games. And the Broncos are looking for a fresh start at glory with new coach Nathaniel Hackett.
Following the retirement of Peyton Manning in 2015, the Broncos have failed to replace the iconic QB, who won them the Super Bowl that year. They have tried out the likes of Drew Lock, Teddy Bridgewater, Joe Flacco, Trevor Siemian, and Paxton Lynch but none of them have been able to have a solid impact on the team.
Now, landing a top-class QB is on the wishlist of the Broncos. And GM George Paton ‘doesn’t care’ how the team get a quarterback as long as they fill the void.
George Paton speaks out on potential QB options
While speaking to the press at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday, Paton said, “We just want the best guy. We don’t care if it’s a free agency. We don’t care if it’s the draft. To be honest, we don’t care even if it’s a trade. We’re going to exhaust all options to try to get the best guy for the Broncos.”
According to reports, the Broncos are doing their due diligence on the 2022 NFL Draft QB group. KUSA’s Mike Klis has claimed that the Broncos have already met with Pitt QB Kenny Pickett, Ole Miss QB Matt Corral, and Liberty QB Malik Willis.
The three quarterbacks are closely linked with a move to Denver. However, it is believed that the Broncos are also leaving the door open for a potential move for Green Bay Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers.
