Rory McIlroy is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland and a member of both the European and PGA Tours. Caroline Wozniacki is a Danish former professional tennis player.
Both the famous personalities were ranked world No. 1 in their respective sports. They were engaged and invitations were sent out but just prior to their wedding, they decided to part ways.
McIlroy and Wozniacki started dating back in 2011. They were known to be quite happy in each other’s presence. Three years later, they got engaged but only a few months later, they ended their relationship.
The soon-to-be-married couple broke up apparently during a brief three-minute conversation over the phone. The 31-year-old tennis star was participating in the French Open competition when McIlroy informed that he wanted to bring the relationship to a close. As per reports, Wozniacki was taken aback hearing McIlroy’s decision as they even had loving words to share the day before.
Various reports suggested that McIlroy ended the relationship as it was not helping him focus on his game. As per a source, McIlroy would travel to meet Wozniacki quite often and watch her matches. This had hampered his own practice. McIlroy had also admitted in an interview that he was not ready for marriage at the time.
McIlroy said: “The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails. I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had.”
Wozniacki later revealed that McIlroy never contacted him after that conversation.

Both Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy are well settled now. Both are married and are parents as well.
McIlroy tied the knot with a former PGA of America employee, Erica Stoll in April 2017. They have a daughter named Poppy, who was born in September 2020.
Wozniacki got married to NBA star David Lee on 16 June 2019 at the luxury resort of Castiglion del Bosco, a Rosewood location near Montalcino in Tuscany. Legendary tennis player Serena Williams was one of her bridesmaids. Wozniacki gave birth to a daughter, Olivia, on 11 June 2021.
