The former NXT Champion Johnny Gargano’s contract with WWE expired on December 10, 2021. He decided against renewing the contract with the Stamford-based company. Since then, Gargano’s next possible destination has been a popular discussion among fans.
The upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event was all set to feature Bryan Danielson in a match against Zack Sabre Jr., but the American Dragon announced this week on AEW Dynamite that he had not been cleared to wrestle. However, he went on to reveal that he had someone in mind to compete on his behalf against Zack at this weekend’s event. Danielson also mentioned that the mystery wrestler is technically solid in the ring. Johnny Gargano is rumored to face Sable Jr at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
“This Sunday (June 26th) I’ll be in Chicago….” – Johnny Gargano revealed his plans for this Sunday
Fans began speculating this mystery wrestler to be none other than the former NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano.
The 34-year-old added food for thought as he tweeted:
“This Sunday (June 26th) I’ll be in Chicago at The Chicago Card Show presented by Midwest Sports Buffet! I’ll be signing autographs in the morning! For more info visit http://midwestsportsbuffet.com”
The fans began believing that Gargano was all set to make his AEW debut, but in a reply to this tweet, the talented athlete tried to calm the fans down as he wrote:
“I promise you this is ridiculously coincidental and has been booked for months. I’ll only be in Chicago for like 8 hours! *I also realize in saying this that only like 5% of you are going to believe I’m actually telling the truth.”
