Newcastle United Opinion: 3 ambitious signings the Magpies should make

According to the Chronicle Live, Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has insisted he has provided proof of funding for their £350million takeover of Newcastle United.

Mike Ashley had agreed to sell the club to Sheikh Khaled for £350m and that the signed heads of terms had been forwarded to the Premier League.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez is still to agree his contract extension with the Magpies and once the takeover is complete, the Bin Zayed Group should retain him as boss. Once Benitez’s future is sorted out, the new owners must provide the manager with necessary funds to strengthen his squad this summer.

The takeover bid should get Newcastle supporters dreaming of potential transfer targets, as the club might have a huge budget to spend. The potential new owner is the cousin of Manchester City’s Sheikh Mansour, whose heavy investment since more than a decade has propelled the Cityzens to become one of the European giants.

That being said, here are three players Benitez can realistically target this summer.

1. Salomon Rondon (West Brom)

Signing Salomon Rondon has to be Benitez’s first and foremost priority after the takeover is completed.

The Venezuelan, 29, impressed at Newcastle after joining on a season-long loan from West Brom, as he scored 11 goals and supplied seven assists.

Rondon won Newcastle’s Player of the Season award over the past campaign, and the Magpies can make the striker’s transfer permanent for £16.5 million, as reported by the Telegraph.

2. Juan Mata (Manchester United)

According to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle has been linked with a shock swoop for Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata.

Mata, 30, is out of contract at Old Trafford next month and can leave on a free transfer. The Spaniard worked under Benitez at Chelsea and could take Newcastle to a different level.

Newcastle fans have been crying out for some ambition from the board and once the takeover is completed, Mata could just be the player that can light up St. James’ Park on a weekly basis with his creative displays.

3. Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth)

Bournemouth star Ryan Fraser has caught the attention this season with his sparkling displays. He is already been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle.

The Magpies have a number of talented players from Miguel Almiron to Ayoze Perez. Whilst Rondon scored goals this season, the club have been lacking a creative player who can create and score goals in equal measure.

Fraser would be a brilliant signing for Newcastle, providing Benitez’s side with bundles of pace, energy and creativity. The diminutive Scotsman’s addition could make the Tyneside-based club an exciting team to watch.
