Newcastle Opinion: Why the Magpies must sign Charles-Jesaja Herrmann?

According to a report from Turkish Football, Newcastle United, Everton and Celtic are interested in Wolfsburg starlet Charles-Jesaja Herrmann.

The Ghanaian, 19, has 12 goals and seven assists in 25 games for Wolfsburg U19 in all competitions this season. The highly-rated forward has a contract until 2022 but is desperate to join a club that will give him first-team football, report Turkish Football.

Charles-Jesaja Herrmann is yet to make his first-team debut for Wolfsburg, but his performances with the U19s has seen him attract a lot of interest. That being said, Newcastle United must beat the likes of Everton and Celtic to the teenager’s signature in the summer.

Charles Jesaja Herrmann

Newcastle have struggled for goals having managed just 42 this season. Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez have had the lion’s share of goals which was just enough for the Magpies to avoid relegation.

Perez has struck a career-best 12 goals in the Premier League, while West Brom loanee Rondon has contributed with 10 goals and 7 assists.

Even if Rafael Benitez manages to sign Rondon permanently from West Ham in the summer, the Toon Army should bring in a forward to bolster his attacking ranks.

Newcastle, as usual, could face budgetary problems in the transfer market; so it’ll be wise for Benitez to eye a young, prolific goalscorer. Thus, signing Charles-Jesaja Herrmann could solve a few issues up top for the Magpies.

Herrmann is a tall, strong, powerful and athletic centre-forward, who is equally adept at playing in different attacking roles.

The 19-year-old can play as a winger on either side or can also operate as a support striker. He can be real menace for the defenders due to his strength and power, as well as his pace and direct approach.

The German-born Ghanaian, along with the likes of Miguel Almiron, Ayoze Perez and Christian Atsu, could light up St. James’ Park next season. With their speed, skill and movement and the Magpies will hugely benefit from signing the teenager.

If Rondon stays, Herrmann can play as a secondary striker or on either of the flanks depending on the opposition.

Verdict

Newcastle mustn’t hesitate to take a gamble on Herrmann, who is yet to have a taste of first-team football at Wolfsburg.

The teenage prodigy certainly won’t cost a fortune, but the Magpies will have to battle the likes of Celtic and Everton to bag his signature.

All in all, he would definitely be an excellent long-term investment for the Tyneside-based outfit.
