Why Newcastle should push ahead in their interest of Ciro Immobile

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Daily Express), Newcastle United are monitoring Lazio striker Ciro Immobile.

The report also, however, suggests that the Magpies’ chances of signing him are entirely dependent on the club’s proposed takeover. Newcastle are still awaiting news on the proposed takeover of the club by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

It has been almost three months since the deal was agreed between PIF and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, however, the Premier League is yet to approve the £300million deal.

Meanwhile, Italian finisher Immobile has been one of the best finishers in Europe in the last few years. His mere stats are a testament to his talent.

Immobile has also previously won the top-scorer award in the Serie A two times (29 goals (2017-18), and 22 goals (2013-14) and is on the verge of a third very soon. He is currently the leading goal scorer in the Italian top-flight with a massive 29 league goals to his name and has been key to Lazio’s rise to top-three in the table this season.

Having proved himself in Europe’s highest level over the years, it is not a big surprise Newcastle have considered him as a potential star to lead their attack if the proposed takeover is approved.

Immobile can solve the goal-scoring woes at Newcastle

Meanwhile, the Magpies under Steve Bruce has managed to stay in the top-flight despite their lack of a consistent goal-scorer. The side have managed just 36 goals from their overall 35 league matches, and Newcastle are aware that this will not serve them well in the coming years.

The club bought forward Joelinton from Hoffenheim last summer to add more strength to their attack but the Brazilian has failed to impress, as evident from his numbers this season. He has just 2 goals and 2 assists to his name.

Apart from Joelinton, the Magpies also have Dwight Gayle, Yoshinori Muto, and veteran Andy Carroll as back-up but the three have also been far from impressive.

Hence, it is very clear that they need a consistent finisher in front of goal and who better than Immobile.

Verdict

Considering Newcastle’s displays in attack this season, it is evident that the side lack a consistent finisher in their ranks. Despite numerous opportunities, Joelinton has failed to live up to his expectations and Immobile’s arrival can definitely offer them more sharpness in their attack. A proven customer over the years, he can help the side also better their displays next season.
