Why Newcastle United should complete a loan deal for Eddie Nketiah
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United are mulling over a loan deal for Arsenal prospect Eddie Nketiah. The club are looking to stock up their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Profile
Eddie Nketiah, 21, currently plays for Arsenal. The English youngster, who actually started his youth career at Chelsea back in 2008, moved to rivals Arsenal in 2015.
In 2017, he was called up to the senior squad but has failed to nail down a spot in the squad since. At the start of last season, he was sent to Leed United on loan but was recalled midway through the season (via Sky Sports). Since then he has featured much more prominently for the team, making 17 appearances and scoring 4 goals (source – Transfermarkt).
Is he a useful option for Newcastle?
With Dwight Gayle out due to a long-term injury and Joelinton failing to make any sort of impact in his first season at the club, the club had to resort to Andy Carroll. Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron were the source of goals for the team.
Eddie Nketiah has always been on the fringes of the Arsenal first-team, making a bulk of his appearances in cup competitions. He has always managed to impress whenever he has gotten the chance.
New signing Callum Wilson should be Steve Bruce’s first choice to spearhead the attack this season but the manager would definitely like a few options when it comes to the attack. Nketiah does fit the bill in that sense. He has a fair bit of experience in the league at just 21 years of age and can improve further.

Verdict
With Newcastle needing players with Premier League experience to prepare for the coming season, a loan deal for Eddie Nketiah could prove to be a smart piece of business. He wouldn’t cost a transfer fee given it’s a loan move.
A quality player who is young and talented, he could act as an able deputy to Callum Wilson. Newcastle should look to work this transfer now that they have signed Wilson from Bournemouth.
