Unlike other players, Alavardo doesn’t always go face-up with an opposition player. But he is known to come off the bench to sneak the ball from the opposition by running from the baseline and forcing a turnover much before the ball even crosses halfcourt.

Not only has he made young NBA star lose the ball in hurriedness but even veterans like LeBron James and Chris Paul also fumble the ball during the latter stages of the game. While he may not have many 20+ points game but his unique proposition has made him a pivotal part in the New Orleans Pelicans’ core.

All about Jose Alvarado’s nickname

As the Pelicans managed to sneak in the playoffs last season to contest against the Phoenix Suns, by winning their play-in game, Jose Alvarado’s ball-stealing heroics made Devin Booker and Chris Paul cause turnovers in clutch situations. Although the Pelicans lost 4-2 in the first round itself, but Jose earned himself the same nickname.

Not only that Jose Alvarado once also came to NBA on TNT’s studio only to sneak an attack on Charles Barkley. For his exploits, fans dubbed him the moniker “Grand Theft Auto,” and the second-year guard lived up to that expectation.

That being said, the rule change regarding bench players stepping on the court has made it a tad difficult for the youngster to hide in the baseline. But Jose Alvarado continues to add to his nickname by somehow sneaking up to the rival even now.
