Kendrick Perkins has been all over the news of late for his recent “MVP” comments – what did Charles Barkley say about him?

Kendrick Perkins is often known for his hot takes but he came up with one of his hottest ones till date as he questioned the MVP voting system. With the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic on his way to a third consecutive Most Valuable Player award, Perkins questioned the voting system and called it out for having a racial bias – which did not go down well amongst many people.

The Serbian Jokic averaged a double-double in his MVP seasons the last two years. The Denver star is currently averaging 24.4 points, 11.8 rebounds and 10 assists and is well on his way to another MVP award. However, according to Perkins last week, he does not score nearly enough to be considered for the MVP award every year.

Perkins said that only three players since 1990 have won an MVP despite being outside the top 10 in points per game: Jokic in his first MVP campaign in 2020-21, Dirk Nowitzki (2006-07) and Steve Nash (2004-05, 2005-06). “What do those guys have in common? I’ll let it sit there and marinate. You think about it,” he said on “First Take”, testing co-host Stephen A. Smith.

The insinuation did not go down well amongst many, with Charles Barkley being one of its many detractors.

What did Charles Barkley have to say about the Kendrick Perkins allegation?

That’s asinine and silly,” the NBA analyst said of Perkins’ take during a recent appearance on the Altitude Sports Radio.

The NBA analyst shot back at Perkins, calling his argument “silly”

Asinine, silly and stupid. Pick one of the words, whatever one you want. One of the things that’s silly about ESPN at times, they do this silly debate every year about the MVP, going back to even when I played.”

Barkley added: “They did it a lot with LeBron, which makes me laugh, too. Derrick Rose won it. He deserved it. Kevin Durant won it. He deserved it. It’s a regular season award. It ain’t who the best player is. It’s who had the best regular season, but every year ESPN gets these fools on radio and TV to talk about who’s the best player.”
