Vince Carter came up with an interesting take why Anthony Davis is not taking over the Los Angeles Lakers from LeBron James.

Anthony Davis is always in the news for one reason or the other. The Los Angeles Lakers star center is one of the best players in the league in his day, however, the polarizing center has never had a shortage of detractors who have continuously urged the Lakers to trade the center because of his injuries or because of his shooting that often cannot support LeBron James alongside him.

However, despite all the criticism that Davis has received since the start of the season, the center has started the season in a great touch of form. Davis averages 26.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game this season, leading the league in rebounds this year – and even inspiring the struggling Lakers to a number of wins even in the absence of the talismanic LeBron James.

Yet, the Lakers continue to be the latter’s team instead of the former. Even though Davis and James did win the 2020 NBA Championship together, there is a general expectation that the Lakers should be Davis’ own team by now – but yet, it isn’t. While there may be many reasons for it, former NBA champion Vince Carter has come up with a very interesting take on things.

What has Vince Carter said about the reason why Anthony Davis has not taken the Lakers over from LeBron James yet?

The former NBA champion said that in his opinion, Davis is not being able to take the Lakers over from James because of his respect for the NBA legend.

I think it’s a respect thing. He respects what LeBron James has done in the game, but at the same time, you are allowed to and you should – nothing wrong with you respecting him – but when that guy that you respect is now trying to give you the reins and wants you to take over and be the go-to guy and he can complement you, you should take that as an honor and run with it.”

Regardless, Davis continues to have a strong season as he racked up 27 points, 12 rebounds and an assists in the Lakers’ latest win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.
