Steve Nash calls out his team to perform better in home games in absence of superstar Kyrie Irving

Brooklyn Nets are 2nd in the Eastern Conference with a 27-15 record this season. Surprisingly the team full of stars struggle at their home court and performed better in away games. One of the reasons for it could be the absence of superstar Kyrie Irving for home games. When asked about this situation in an interview Steve Nash replied by challenging his team to perform better at home.

Kyrie Irving was absent for a larger period of this season. His reluctance to get vaccinated, forced the franchise to keep him out of rotation also. But mid-season Covid crises, when sizable numbers of players were in NBA Covid-19 protocol, Nets recalled their star guard. And his return made a positive impact on the results for the team.

Team performance reached a new level with Kyrie in the team and they were able to outscore top team Chicago Bulls handsomely. But sadly due to New York State mandate regarding unvaccinated individuals, Kyrie cannot play in the Nets’ home games.

So, considering the Nets home record, Kyrie’s unavailability for the home games, and the team’s performance in away games with Kyrie, raises many doubts in many people about how the team will react to this unique situation.

Steve cleared all the ifs-n-buts with his comments. He said, “You have an opportunity to play, to play more, with more responsibility, and prove that we can win when he (Kyrie) is not available.” This can be a direct message to his players to perform better and take care of home games.

Steve Nash reply directed at the Nets team without Kyrie Irving

Nash made it clear to the team; they need to consider that Kyrie won’t be available for the home games. The Nets are just above .5 records at home with a 12-11 record. Kevin Durant and James Harden had a good season so far averaging around 25+ points in home games. But they might need to scale up their performances in home games to deal with the absence of Irving.

Patty Mills and LaMarcus Aldridge are two other top-performing players for the Nets, who could help the team dominate the home court. Steve Nash seeks better production in home court and it could help the team in the postseason also.

The Nets will face the Lakers next on home court on 25th January, after finishing their 4 game road trip.
