Patrick Beverley is set to lose over $250,000 just for his three-game suspension awarded to him for shoving the Phoenix Suns’ DeAndre Ayton in the back in his latest game.

Patrick Beverley of the Los Angeles Lakers is set to lose over $250,000 for a three-game suspension issued to him by the NBA courtesy of his unsportsmanlike behaviour in the Lakers’ recent outing at the Phoenix Suns, where Beverley gave DeAndre Ayton a shove in the back.

The Los Angeles Lakers went up against the Phoenix Suns in their latest game on Tuesday. The Lakers travelled to the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix and were defeated by the home side in a 115-105 win – however; it was Lakers guard Patrick Beverley who made the most headlines following the encounter as he got into a shoving incident with DeAndre Ayton.

It was during the game against the Suns that Austin Reaves took his chance for a three-pointer, but was thwarted and was denied again when he tried to get into the paint and get a shot away. When DeAndre Ayton was standing over Reeves on the floor and was trying to get in his head, Beverley appeared out of nowhere and pushed him in the back – causing Ayton to bundle over.

In the league’s statement, attributed to executive vice president and head of basketball operations Joe Dumars, the suspension was explained as being “based in part on Beverley’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.” The terms of the suspension will ensure that Beverley will not be getting paid, and will cost him $268,965, according to ESPN’s front office insider Bobby Marks.

What did Patrick Beverley have to say about his behaviour?

Beverley was immediately apologetic for his behaviour following the game and said that he would accept any punishment given to him.

Following the game, Beverley said he was “for sure” concerned that the league would discipline him for his actions and added that he would accept the punishment that was meted out. “Very unprofessional by myself. Definitely could have reacted in a different way,” the former Minnesota Timberwolves guard said. “I’m a big boy. I’ll take my lumps however they come.”

Beverley will miss the Lakers’ games on the road against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday and Saturday and also their home game on Monday against the Indiana Pacers.
