Minnesota Timberwolves looking to build big-3 around Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, Ben Simmons

With the NBA trade deadline closing on. Every playoff aspirant team is looking to add a possible asset to push their chances for the postseason. Minnesota Timberwolves are currently 9th in the Western Conference. And just 1 game behind 6th placed Denver Nuggets.

Lots of permutations and combinations can occur in the remaining 41 games. But the Timberwolves are looking to cement their place in the postseason by acquiring an All-star caliber player.

Like many teams, they have identified Philadelphia’s Ben Simmons as a possible target for that 3rd elite star. Simmons is an unused superstar in Philly’s roster, who is destined to move away. Minnesota is hoping to get Simmons without losing either of their star pair Towns and Edwards.

The idea behind acquiring Simmons would be to pair him with Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards. This will form the Wolves elite trio. This could add an efficient ball-handler, premier defender, and effective scorer to the front-court duo.

Possible trade package for Ben Simmons without Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards

Philadelphia has a clear stance over the Simmons trade situation. They are looking for Damian Lillard or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander level player in the package to discuss the trade. This demand in the current situation is very high. Not many teams will look to move their franchise-calibre player mid-way in the regular season.

Minnesota also doesn’t have any player other than Towns or Edwards to fulfil the condition. They might have to lose Malik Beasley, D’Angelo Russell, and Patric Beverly. This could be a heavy task considering roster spots Philly posses and the salary cap.

Another option is to go for multi-team trade. It may be involving Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings which could absorb both the trade obstacles. Only time will tell whether Minnesota will get Simmons in either trade option. Or they opt for any other star to add to their Roster.
