When Durant committed to the University of Texas in 2005, it was revealed that he nearly went with the University of Connecticut.

According to former Huskies head coach Jim Calhoun, it was a big thing for Calhoun’s UConn basketball program, even though KD chose to go to the University of Texas.

Calhoun said that it went ‘beyond his program’ for just Kevin Durant to consider coming to UConn.

Jim Calhoun revealed this news about Kevin Durant during an appearance on SiriusXM on November 26. Calhoun exclusively said that Durant was actually committed to UConn at one point before changing his mind.

“He would’ve been a pretty good player with the players he played with with us.” Calhoun revealed this in the interview. (h/t: Adam Zagoria)

How was Kevin Durant’s college career?

Before joining the NBA, Brooklyn Nets superstar, Kevin Durant played one year of college basketball. It was during the 2006-07 season when KD played college basketball for the University of Texas.

Durant had a tremendous college basketball career. Since his college basketball days, Durant has shown visible signs of his basketball excellence.

In just one season of college basketball, KD averaged 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. He also averaged 1.3 assists per game.

In the season where KD played, the Texas Longhorns finished the season 25-10. Further, the Longhorns lost against Kansas in the Big 12 Championship Game and to USC in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

After playing for the University of Texas, Kevin Durant got drafted into the NBA. Durant was the 2007 second-overall NBA Draft pick by the Seattle SuperSonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder).

Ever since entering the NBA, 34-year-old Durant has turned into a superstar. He is already a two-time NBA champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, NBA Most Valuable Player (2014), NBA Rookie of the Year (2008), and twelve-time NBA All-Star.

Also, Durant is a three-time Olympic Gold medalist. He won Gold medals in the 2012 London, 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
