Amidst the bad start for the Hawks, there is a new problem among the Atlanta outfit. A report suggested that Atlanta Hawks coach Nate McMillan is strongly considering resigning.

Addressing the reports, Nate McMillan has come forward to speak his part on potential resignation.

“I read that article briefly, I’ve never spoke to that reporter before,” McMillan said. “I think the last two weeks he’s written a couple articles with some sources in our organization that are making some comments about me, and some things that I’m saying and doing. Look, at the end of the year, I’ll do as I’ve always done, at the end of the season I talk with my family and see if I still have that flame, that fire to continue next season. That’s the end of the season. All of us think about retiring, but that’s at the end of the season. So we’ll move on past that.” (h/t: CBS)

Meanwhile, Sams Charania of The Athletic reported that if Nate McMillan did not resign immediately, his coaching job is relatively safe for the remainder of the NBA season.

Notably, Nate McMillan got the Atlanta Hawks coaching job when the Hawks franchise fired former head coach Lloyd Pierce in the middle of the 2020-21 season.

But McMillan’s fate seems to be different than Lloyd Pierce’s as McMillan will not be fired by Hawks in the middle of an NBA season.

Moreover, Nate McMillan above response did not really refute the reporting from The Athletic’s Shams Charania which mean Nate will likely continue coaching for the rest of the NBA season.

On the other hand, Atlanta Hawks CEO Steve Koonin made an appearance on 929 The Game in Atlanta Friday to gun down the story, calling it “trash journalism.” Further, Koonin added that “This is made up stuff. I am literally calling Shams out. It is just hack journalism. Hack.”

Whatever may be the case, there can be no denying that Atlanta Hawks are in a bad shape this year. Only the future will tell if they can clinch a Playoff berth or not.
