The 2022 NBA All-Star game heads to Cleveland this year as the best player in the league go head-to-head

The NBA All-Star Weekend is always one of the most thrilling times in an NBA season. With the two teams geared up, the stage is set for one of the most anticipated games of the year. This year, one of the two Captains of the teams will be missing.

Kevin Durant, captain of Team Durant is recovering from an MCL sprain and will miss the game. His adversary LeBron James will be eager to step on court with a solid lineup. We take a look at the teams, the schedule of the All-Star weekend and much more.

Other countries can use the NBA TV app downloaded on tablet, phone or any other device.

In the United Kingdom, NBA Basketball is live and exclusive on Sky Sports, with matches on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Mix.

2022 NBA All-Star Game Rosters

The two teams will be named Team LeBron and Team Durant, with the All-star starters and reserves from both Conferences drafted by the captains. Since Durant’s team has two injuries, there have been two replacements who have joined the team.

Team LeBron

Starters:

  • LeBron James

LeBron James will be appearing in his 18th All-Star game. He has been the only player in the LA Lakers to have managed a good run of form in an otherwise disappointing season.

He has averaged 28.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 37.3 minutes per game this season.

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo comes off a brilliant season in his young NBA career. The Greek supremo won his first NBA crown with the Milwaukee Bucks, along with the KIA NBA Finals MVP award. He reunites with his captain James for a second season running.

This year, he has been impressive yet again becoming a frontrunner for the MVP award. He has already won two consecutive MVP awards in 2019 and 2020.

  • Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry is having a remarkable season with the Warriors. He broke the record for most 3s in NBA history this year overtaking Ray Allen. With the Warriors, he has guided them to 41-15 this season. The return of Klay Thompson has been another great addition to Curry’s season.

Curry averages 27.7 points, 5.9 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 30 games this season.

  • DeMar DeRozan 

DeRozan is a welcome new addition to Team LeBron this year. The 32-year old was touted to be a flop this season with the Chicago Bulls this season. Instead, he has been playing on an MVP level this season with 27.5 points per game.

With Zach LaVine, the duo have helped the Bulls reach the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference this season.

  • Nikola Jokic

The 2020-21 KIA MVP Nikola Jokic has continued his wonderful form this year. Nikola Jokic has averaged 25.7 points, 13.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists in 29 games this season.

He is one of the favourites to take home the MVP award once again in 2022.

Team Durant

Starters:

  • Joel Embiid

Embiid is on a herculean run with the Sixers in the Eastern Conference. The Cameroonian has scored at least 40 points in three of his last four games, and at least 30 points in 14 of his last 15 games.

With Embiid, the Sixers are 25-11. They boast a 114.8 offensive rating and a 107.7 defensive rating when Embiid is on court.

  • Ja Morant

Morant is averaging 26.5 points, 6.8 assists and 5.9 rebounds in 43 games. He joins Marc Gasol (2015) as the only Grizzlies to start in an NBA All-Star game.

The youngster is having a wonderful season with the Grizzlies, who have a 39-18 record this season.

  • Jayson Tatum 

Tatum is averaging 25.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game for the Celtics. The 23-year-old Tatum will be playing in his third consecutive All-Star Game.

Tatum replaces Durant as a starter after his MCL injury. Tatum will have his first appearance as a starter in the game and will be pumped to outshine his opponents.

  • Trae Young

In 2020, Young started for Team Giannis and scored 10 points. This time, however, he will be representing Team Durant. Young is averaging 27.7 points and 9.3 assists per game. 

He’s leading the NBA in total points and is the only player in top five in points and assists. 

  • Andrew Wiggins 

Wiggins only missed a handful of games with the Warriors in 2019-20 and 2020-21and four in 2021-22.

Wiggins has been immense for the Warriors defensive rating of 102.4. His debut appearance will come against his teammate Stephen Curry.
