Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has brought up exactly why Draymond Green has avoided a suspension from the Golden State Warriors after his attack on Jordan Poole.

The Golden State Warriors have been dealt with a major blow in their morale ahead of a season where they will have to defend their title – courtesy of a major scandal involving Draymond Green and Jordan Poole. It was reported that Green forcibly hit Poole following an altercation in practice, and while the session was called off – reports of the incident immediately surfaced.

Things went from bad to worse when the video of the altercation was leaked on social media, and it was seen that Green forcibly hit Poole in an altercation that was so bad that the rest of the team and the backroom staff had to intervene. The atmosphere of tension in the Warriors camp is something that runs way deeper than just another altercation between players in practice.

It was reported that the atmosphere of tension peaked in the defending champions’ camp courtesy of several contract situations at the club – and it is even worse now owing to recent events despite Green publicly apologizing to both Green and the rest of the team. Green is currently out of the team since the reports of the incident surfaced on Wednesday last week.

Although the Warriors announced they would chalk out their punishment to Green behind the scenes, it is likely that the veteran will not be suspended for his unsportsmanlike behaviour for one particular reason.

Why will Green not be suspended by the Warriors?

The Warriors will not suspend green because of the timing of the situation, according to NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

According to the ESPN journalist, even though Green has been dealt with a heavy fine, he is likely to escape a suspension just because of the timing of the altercation. “I’m told that the Warriors put significant weight on the fact that opening night is also ring night…If this incident had landed in the middle of the regular season, there would probably be a suspension.”

The Golden State Warriors begin their season against the Los Angeles Lakers on 18th October.
