The Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra gave his insights on what he expects from Kyle Lowry next season.
The Miami Heat were the 1st seed in the Eastern Conference following the end of the regular season. They had championship expectations this season, but they were knocked out in the ECF by the Celtics.
Jimmy Butler had a sensational run in the playoffs, but his teammates didn’t have the best of their games during the series against Boston. As a result, they fell short but they know what work they have to do in order to win a championship.
Kyle Lowry was brought in last summer from Toronto, as the Heat needed a championship-winning point guard. Lowry didn’t have the best of years, and it was largely due to injuries.
Miami’s head coach Erik Spoelstra talked about Lowry after they were knocked out by the Celtics. He said, “I think Kyle will come back in the next training camp in the best shape of his career,”
Coach Spo added, “That certainly is important as you get further along in your career and into your 30s, conditioning and keeping your body right. That’s your ultimate opponent is Father Time, and Kyle understands that as well as anybody. He trains hard — he really works at it behind the scenes, and he does that during the season as well.”
Erik Spoelstra claims injuries played a big part in Lowry’s bad season
Erik Spoelstra further talked about how Lowry was unable to make an impact this season. He said, “You have to take into context everything, The missed games, injuries, it’s not all apples to apples. And then trying to ramp up as quickly as you possibly can in the middle of a series — these are not excuses, it’s just the reality.”
Certainly, Kyle Lowry would have made more impact if he was fit throughout the season. He is a great player and has the experience of winning a championship, which is why he’ll be key to Miami’s chances next season if they want to win a championship.
