All you need to know about the team Marcus Stroman is representing at the World Baseball Classic 2023.
One of the shining lights of the 2017 World Baseball Classic was the pitcher Marcus Stroman. When he guided the United States to victory in the tournament, he was awarded as the Most Valuable Player award. The United States of America won the championship game after Stroman pitched six innings of hitless, scoreless ball, allowing only one hit. Six years later, the United States of America compete in the World Boxing Championship with sky-high expectations; however, Stroman has switched teams.
In this competition, Stroman will be representing Puerto Rico as a player. He wants to assist the squad recover after the disappointment of the previous competition, in which he was a contributing factor. In the World Baseball Classic, the restrictions placed on a player’s ability to compete for more than one team have been loosened. Because Stroman’s mother is a native of Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rican national team can legally select him to play for them.
The decision that Stroman made to pitch for the United States in 2017 was contentious in certain quarters, namely among Puerto Ricans who were angry that he gave up the opportunity to wear their national team’s colors.
After a great performance for the United States of America in the World Baseball Classic six years ago, Stroman now has the opportunity to make even more of an international legacy by winning the tournament with a new team.
