Which team is Javier Baez playing for in the WBC? 2

At this year’s World Baseball Classic, there is a great deal more magic than in previous years. In the competition, star player Javier Báez is representing Puerto Rico. The infielder previously competed for Puerto Rico in 2017, when the team achieved a second-place finish after falling short in the championship game against the United States.

Despite the fact that Báez had a difficult time with the bat in his first season with the Tigers, registering a batting line of.230/.272/.369 in his first season with the team, the 29-year-old still has plenty of pop in his bat as he has belted 24 doubles and 12 home runs this season. The athletic shortstop has also contributed four outs with his glove that are above average. He is acrobatic and energetic.

Báez was recognized as deserving of a spot on the All-World Baseball Classic Team in the competition that took place in 2017, and Puerto Rico will be hoping that he can regain the form that earned him that honor. During that season, he had a batting average of.296 with one home run, five runs batted in, and four stolen bases. He was also responsible for one of the most iconic plays in the history of the World Baseball Classic when he applied his signature no-look tag on Nelson Cruz while he was celebrating and the throw had not yet arrived.

Puerto Rico, which has been in second place in the last two WBC championships, will try to finally win the title this time around against major competitors such as Japan, the United States of America, and the Dominican Republic.
