All you need to know about which MLB team actually drafted Philadelphia Phillies’ star short stop Trea Turner.
Trea Turner received his high school education at Park Vista Community High School in Lake Worth, Florida, where he participated in baseball on the school’s varsity squad. Turner only received scholarship offers from North Carolina State University and Florida Atlantic University, where he was only sparingly sought by collegiate schools.
Turner made the decision to play college baseball for the North Carolina State Wolfpack baseball team, which competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I. Despite being selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball draught, Turner chose to play college baseball instead.
Turner was chosen by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft. They used the thirteenth overall pick to make the decision. He signed on June 13 and was awarded a signing bonus of $2.9 million. Three days later, on June 16, he made his first appearance in a professional game, playing for the Eugene Emeralds of the Class A-Short Season Northwest League.
In 2014, it was reported that the Padres had reached an agreement to trade Turner to the Washington Nationals as a player to be named later as part of a larger three-team trade. In that deal, the Padres sent Joe Ross to the Nationals and Jake Bauers, Burch Smith, and René Rivera to the Tampa Bay Rays; the Nationals sent Steven Souza and Travis Ott to Tampa Bay; and Tampa Bay sent Wil Myers to San Diego. San Diego then traded Wil Myers to Tampa Bay
Since that time, Turner has established himself as a major league baseball superstar, winning the World Series with the Washington Nationals and performing admirably with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Recently, he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team.
