The Toronto Blue Jays have put catcher/designated hitter Alejandro Kirk on the 10-day injured list. Kirk got a cut on his left hand that he’s trying to bandage up. In addition, the Toronto Blue Jays sent Bowden Francis to Buffalo of the International League’s Triple-A, bringing backstop Tyler Heineman and relieving pitcher Trent Thornton to take Francis’ place on the active roster.

During yesterday’s game against the Rangers, Kirk was hit in the hand by a fastball thrown by Jon Gray. After his departure, Danny Jansen took over behind the plate for the remainder of the game. Despite the fact that x-rays taken after the game did not reveal any fractures, Kirk will still need at least a week and a half to recover from his injuries. It puts an end to what has been an offensively uncharacteristically average season for the right-handed batter. The ship is taking a hit.253/.337/.331 in 202 at-bats over the course of the season.

He got off to a strong start, posting a batting line of.274/.418/.387 through the first month of the season. He has only managed to post a.241/.285/.302 slash line over the course of the past month and a half. Jansen, on the other hand, has been heading in the opposite direction, and he’ll be the one to catch the majority of the games while Kirk is sidelined. He had a slash line of.179/.246/.375 through the first month and a half of the season, but since May 1 he has posted a mark of.235/.286/.506, indicating that he has found his power stroke.

On the 40-man roster, Heineman is the only other catcher besides the starter. For the time being, he will serve as the backup for Jansen. Since the end of April, when Toronto acquired him from the Pirates, he has appeared six times in the Major League Baseball.

Alejandro Kirk didn’t go to college and was not drafted into Major League Baseball (MLB). Instead, he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays as an international free agent in 2016. This marked the beginning of his professional baseball journey. Before his professional career, Kirk did not attend college. Hailing from Tijuana, Mexico, he focused on honing his baseball skills and caught the attention of scouts with his impressive performances in youth and amateur leagues. His talent as a catcher and his ability to hit for both average and power made him an intriguing prospect.

In 2016, the Toronto Blue Jays signed Kirk as an international free agent. At just 17 years old, he entered the Blue Jays’ minor league system, starting in the Dominican Summer League. Kirk quickly made a name for himself with his exceptional hitting ability, plate discipline, and advanced approach at the plate.

Kirk’s progress through the minor leagues was impressive, and he continued to turn heads with his performances. He displayed an advanced understanding of the strike zone and consistently put together quality at-bats. His ability to make consistent contact and drive the ball led to impressive offensive numbers.

In 2020, Kirk made his MLB debut with the Toronto Blue Jays. Despite limited professional experience, he made an immediate impact at the highest level. Kirk showcased his hitting prowess, batting over .300 in his rookie season. His ability to handle major league pitching and contribute offensively drew attention from fans and scouts alike.
