The New York Yankees have chosen Aaron Judge to be their 16th captain in franchise history. At a press conference held on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees formally revealed that they had agreed to terms with Judge on a contract that would pay him $360 million over the course of nine years. Willie Randolph, who served as a Yankees captain prior to Derek Jeter, was also present for the announcement. Derek Jeter, the most recent captain of the Yankees, was also present.
Judge’s colleagues on the Yankees, especially Nestor Cortes and Anthony Rizzo, have been vocal in their support for Judge’s candidature for the role of team captain following the 2022 campaign. MLB clubs, in contrast to their counterparts in the NHL and NFL, do not traditionally have leaders. David Wright, a legend with the New York Mets who played his final season in its entirety in 2014 before retiring in 2018, served as baseball’s last official captain. One Judge is currently serving as a captain for his team in the league.
When Derek Jeter was chosen captain of the New York Yankees, he was already in his seventh season and had already led the team to four championships in the World Series. It is not necessary to have won a championship for a player to be designated the Yankees captain. Both Mattingly and Munson were given the role of captain before they had even participated in a postseason game.
Judge, who is now 30 years old, was initially selected by the Yankees with the 33rd overall choice in the draught in 2013. Late in 2016, he made his debut in Major League Baseball, and the following year, in 2017, he was crowned AL Rookie of the Year after hitting a then-rookie record 52 home runs. This previous season, Judge broke the lengthy American League record held by Roger Maris with 62 home runs, which earned him the award for AL Most Valuable Player.

Boone went on to say that Aaron Judge has “a lot of pride” in the way he leads the team. The great talent that Judge possesses is no secret to anyone. Despite having an absolutely remarkable 2022 season in which he hit 62 home runs, the Yankees’ slugger came up just short of claiming the triple crown.
It was a remarkable year for Judge, who ended up winning the title of American League Most Valuable Player. During his time as a free agent in Major League Baseball, there were rumors that Judge might sign with a number of different organizations, including the Giants, the Padres, the Dodgers, and the Mets; nevertheless, he ended up staying with the Bronx Bombers.
