Middlesbrough Opinion:  Corentin Jean will bring flair to a limp Boro attack

Middlesbrough’s season has been a peculiar one and the best way to describe it at this point is a ‘mixed bag’. While there are various positives for this talented Boro side to be proud about, some of the deep-lying issues are certainly hindering the performances.

Tony Pulis came into the side with an idea in his head and he seems to have implemented that to perfection but there are fine details that need to be addressed before they leap up in terms of quality of football.

Currently, in 5th place and 3 points away from West Brom in 4th place, their league position is largely down to one factor – their brick wall of a defence. Seemingly impenetrable on some nights, this Boro outfit has conceded just 26 goals this term.

This defensive record is the best one in the league and none of the teams in the chasing pack is even close to this number in terms of goals conceded. This incredible feat is worthy of a higher position on the table but their progress has been halted because of some attacking worries.

Their current position is down to the fact that they have scored just 39 goals all campaign. This is a number that is holding them back and had it been for a more creative and prosperous front-line, who knows how far ahead on the table Boro could be!

There are multiple issues in the attack as well but the most glaring one seems to the alarming lack of creativity down the flanks. With Rajiv Van La Parra and 34-year-old Stuart Downing as the only winger options, Pulis has struggled to make his attacking tactics work.

This calls for action in the upcoming transfer window and with promotion still on the cards at Middlesbrough, the need for reinforcements is now that much greater. With the team’s best interest in mind, a tricky winger is what this Boro side need to regain their former glory.

Toulouse midfield sensation Corentin Jean can be the perfect player for this Middlesbrough side as his flair and finesse on the ball is exactly what they lack. His movement and intelligence can add a new dimension to this fleeting Boro attack.

He is a talented Frenchman and is set to turn 24 later this year. However, he has already made over 70 appearances in French football with Toulouse and Monaco. This season, he has been quite useful for his side and has contributed with an assist from his 19 league games.

He has the right kind of attributes to excel in England and Boro might just find the ideal piece to crack their attacking puzzle. Tony Pulis must make a move for this talented Frenchman before any of the rivals recognise his potential and scoop him up in the coming window.
