For the first few years of high school, Marcus was only an ordinary player who was comparatively unheard of. However, in the last year, he had a miraculous metamorphosis and stunned everyone with his skill on the field. He redshirted in 2011, which led to him beginning his college football career with the Oregon Ducks in 2012.
