Manchester United Opinion: Why Isco would be a top signing for Man United

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Manchester United are one of the European clubs interested in signing Real Madrid star, Isco.

The Spain international’s future in Madrid looks in real doubt as the club look ready to offload him this summer. Isco, like his teammates, had a disappointing season in the La Liga.

Despite the playmaker enduring a poor season with the Los Blancos, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are interested in signing Isco, as Real believe they can still recoup as much as £105million for him, the report adds.

While Isco would be a fantastic fit at either PSG or Manchester City, Manchester United need him more than any other club at the moment.

The Red Devils are looking to overhaul their squad this summer, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to take the club back to the top in the Premier League. The underwhelming 2018/19 campaign has propelled the United board to invest heavily in the ongoing summer transfer window.

With Ander Herrera leaving the club in the summer, Juan Mata likely to follow his Spanish compatriot’s footsteps as he is out of contract at the club and uncertainty regarding Paul Pogba’s future, the Red Devils are depleted in the midfield area.

Additionally, Solskjaer’s side lacked flair and creativity, which cost them several games; thus, there is an urgent requirement of bolstering the attack as well ahead of next season.

Due to United’s need for bit more creativity and flexibility in the attack, signing Isco, therefore would be a step in the right direction.

Isco is a gifted playmaker and would solve United’s desperate need of a no.10. The Reds were heavily dependent on Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford to score goals and while the duo were electric in the opening two months under Solskjaer, they failed to deliver during the business end of the campaign that cost the club a place in the Champions League.

That needs to change next season if United are to make progress under Solskjaer and a player of Isco’s quality could make a lot of difference. The Spanish international’s versatility allows him to play across the frontline or in an advanced role in a midfield three. He can carve open defences at will, add the flair that was missed in United’s attack this past season and most importantly, score goals.

Bringing in Isco will not completely alleviate the onus from Pogba but it will give the Frenchman license to make the odd run into the box, hoping that Isco could find him. He could also be an ideal long-term replacement for the ageing Mata, who is expected to leave the club this month.

Verdict

With no one quite as good as Isco in their current squad, United shouldn’t think twice about paying whatever it takes to bring the Spaniard at Old Trafford ahead of next term.
