Manchester United Opinion: Why Solskjaer should sign Felipe Anderson?
Manchester United have a huge rebuilding job on their hands this summer after suffering another season of disappointment.
It started back in August with Jose Mourinho before his sacking led to club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being handed the job on a temporary basis. A remarkable turnaround in fortunes in a matter of couple of months then led him to being appointed full-time.
But the Red Devils hit a brick wall in the last couple of months of the 2018/19 season, ended the season poorly, with no wins in its final six games in all competitions, losing 2-0 at home to Cardiff City to conclude a Premier League campaign in which it finished sixth.
They’ll not play in the Champions League next term, which is likely to deal further damage to any possible high-profile transfer target.
Solskjaer has a big rebuilding job in his hands now, with the club needing reinforcements in a number of key areas. While shoring up the defence has to be the United manager’s first and foremost priority, he also needs to freshen up his forward department with a couple of attacking players.
In Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez, United have a thrilling attack, but none of them stepped up and delivered the goods when it mattered the most in the last dozen of games. Mata will be a free agent next month, while the likes of Pogba, Lukaku and Sanchez are all linked with an exit.
That’s why signing attacking players is as important as bringing in defensive reinforcements for the Reds and Solskjaer should target West Ham star, Felipe Anderson.
Back in June 2017, the Independent claimed Manchester United were interested in signing Felipe Anderson, who was then playing for Lazio. However, a move didn’t materialise then and the Brazilian joined West Ham last summer.
Felipe Anderson, 26, made a telling impact in his debut season at West Ham, bagging 10 goals and five assists in all competitions. He was one of the club’s shining lights in an otherwise disappointing campaign. The Brazilian is exactly the kind of player United need at the moment.
A left-winger by trade, Anderson is equally adept at playing on the right or through the middle in the no.10 role. His combination of pace, power and dribbling has turned him into a constant terror in England, and boasts the work-rate and energy which makes him tailor-made for Solskjaer’s system.
He has plenty of experience on the right side of an attacking line, which means he can solve United’s one of the biggest conundrums as well.
Verdict
After a fantastic first season in England with West Ham, Anderson’s stock has simply rocketed and it’ll take a spectacular bid from United to lure him away to Old Trafford.

But the Red Devils must not hesitate to reignite their interest and break the bank for the Brazilian, who has the qualities to take Solskjaer’s team to a different level next season.
