Man United Opinion: Red Devils should re-sign Wilfried Zaha this summer

According to The Sun, Man United are set to go head to head with French giants PSG in a transfer tug of war over Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha, as the Red Devils look to bring their former player back to Old Trafford.

The Sun also adds that Zaha might be on his way out of Selhurst Park in the summer, with the 26-year-old expressing his desire to play in the Champions League and compete for silverware at the highest level.

Palace are prepared to cash in on their star man at the end of the season but the Eagles want any potential suitor to stump up a fee in the region of £80 million.

PSG are planning to table a £65 million bid for the 26-year-old Ivory Coast international in the summer and Man United would need to act fast if they are genuinely interested in re-signing Zaha. (h/t Sun)

The Sun also adds that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a personal admirer of the 26-year-old Ivorian, having worked with him at Cardiff City in 2014 when he was shipped out on loan by Man United.

It remains to be seen if Zaha wants to go back to Old Trafford after a disappointing spell earlier in his career where he wasn’t given much playtime to prove his worth, with the player claiming that former United manager David Moyes and his camp tried to destroy his career in every possible way. Zaha rediscovered his mojo on his return to Crystal Palace in a permanent deal in 2015 and has gradually evolved into one of the most impressive players outside the big-six in the Premier League.

The Ivorian earned plenty of plaudits for his impressive performances in the league last season and he has continued his merry way this term as well, chipping in with 9 goals and 3 assists for a Palace side that has struggled for creativity in the final third.

Zaha has been a lone ranger up front for Roy Hodgson’s side for large quarters of the season but he has done ever so well to steer the Eagles to safety in what has been another mediocre campaign for them.

To sum it up, Zaha has progressed through leaps and bounds and has developed into a world-class player since his lean spell at United earlier in his career and a move to any top-club in Europe would help him take his career to the next level.

To put things into perspective, Man United need to grab this opportunity to convince Zaha to move back to Old Trafford in the summer as he would be a perfect fit for Solskjaer’s free-flowing style of play that favours fast and agile strikers up front.

Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku have scored some vital goals over the last couple of games but Zaha can bring that unpredictability and X-factor to United’s attack with his pace, power, directness, subtle movement off the ball.

The Red Devils looked almost unbeatable in their first few games under Solskjaer but they have shown signs of crumbling under pressure in recent weeks, including an absolutely pathetic display in their latest 4-0 defeat to Everton.

Also, Lukaku has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer, which further epitomizes the need for someone like Zaha to come in and maintain the balance of the team. (h/t talkSPORT)

Zaha’s ability to destroy the opposition with his pace, power, dribbling skills and aggressiveness, as well as his presence of mind to link up with his teammates in the final third should add a lot of firepower to United’s resources up front.

To add to that, the Ivorian has worked a lot on his hold-up play and has transformed himself into a really complete and intelligent all-around forward over the last few years.

The 26-year-old has averaged 1.5 key passes, 3.2 dribbles, 2.1 shots and 1.3 tackles per game for Palace in the Premier League this term, figures which speak volumes of his development into one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League.

Moreover, he has a good record against the big-six in the Premier League, which should further prompt the Red Devils to re-sign him.
