Why Dani Ceballos would be a good addition at Manchester City

According to Daily Mail, Premier League side Manchester City, are eyeing a surprise move for Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

The 23-year-old Spaniard has spent the season on loan with Arsenal, who are yet to extend his stay at the Emirates. Despite missing almost two months due to an injury, Ceballos has managed 36 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions.

Ceballos also established himself as a first-team regular under new manager Mikel Arteta, especially since the restart. His improved displays in recent games have prompted Arsenal to keep him within the side on loan for one more season.

However, the report claims that Madrid want to raise funds and are keen on selling Ceballos, who is a clearly an unwanted man at the Santiago Bernabeu. This opens the door for Arsenal’s rivals Manchester City, who are waiting to know about Ceballos’ future at the Emirates.

Ceballos can add strength to Manchester City midfield

Guardiola, on the other hand, has not had the best of seasons after failing to defend their title against eventual champions, Liverpool. Though they had been strong in both their attack and midfield, the defence has been a cause of worry for the former champions.

Considering their displays in the league this term, it is quite certain Guardiola will be eager to bolster his squad in order to get back to the top of the rankings next season. That said, Ceballos could be a useful addition for City due to his versatility in the midfield.

Out of his 36 appearances for Arsenal, Ceballos has played 10 times as a playmaker, 25 times in a more central role and once across the left flank. Meanwhile, City over the last decade, have had an indispensable midfielder in another Spaniard – David Silva. He has won four Premier League and two FA Cup titles with them.

However, the veteran playmaker will depart the club at the end of this season following a 10-year-long spell. Apart from Silva, City have established midfielders only in Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and young Phil Foden.

Of the three, De Bruyne does the major share of creative work and Ceballos’ arrival will reduce the burden on the Belgian. Considering all this, City’s pursuit of Ceballos seems like a wise move and they should continue to monitor his situation.

Moreover, Ceballos is an experienced customer, who already has 100 La Liga games under his belt, meaning his addition will be, by all means, a huge benefit for a side like City.

Verdict

First of all, having proved himself already in the Premier League, it would not take Ceballos much time to adjust to the new surroundings at the Etihad if a move happens. Ceballos is nothing short of experience and this could help Manchester City.
