Why Ferran Torres would be a good addition at Manchester City

According to Daily Mail, Manchester City have announced the signing of versatile Valencia winger Ferran Torres. The Spaniard joins City for a total of £20.87million after agreeing to a five-year contract.

Meanwhile, the young Torres has enjoyed rare individual success this season in an otherwise disappointing campaign for his side Valencia. Despite the La Liga side’s ninth-place finish this term, Torres has scored six goals and provided eight assists from 42 appearances across all competitions.

A Valencia academy product, the young winger has already featured 97 times for the Spanish side, proving that he is not short of experience. With his on-field displays improving with time, Torres has become one of the most exciting young wingers in Europe, forcing Pep Guardiola’s City to include him in their ranks.

Torres can offer Manchester City more options in the attack

Man City recently lost one of their high-profile wingers in Leroy Sane, who departed the club following a four-year spell hampered by a series of injuries.

Despite Sane leaving the club, City still have world-class wingers in Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva in their squad. However, City’s title loss to rivals Liverpool this season has forced Guardiola to search for reinforcements this summer.

That said, City’s signing of rising talent Torres does not come as a surprise as he could offer them more firepower in their attack next season. His versatility is an added benefit for any side, let alone City.

Torres in his 97 appearances for Valencia, has featured 78 times as a right-winger and 10 times on the left, giving a clear idea of his ability to play on both flanks. Hence, City’s decision to rope in the talented youngster seems like a step in the right direction.

Despite enough depth in their wide areas, Torres’ arrival will offer Manchester City and boss Guardiola an option for the future. Torres is just 20 and can develop his game under the guidance of a coach like Guardiola.
