Manchester City Opinion: Guardiola should beat Arsenal to sign Kenny Lala

According to a report from Le10sport, Manchester City will battle Arsenal for the signature of Strasbourg star Kenny Lala.

Kenny Lala, 27, has been in sensational form this season, scoring four goals and supplying nine assists in 30 Ligue 1 games.

Despite his contributions, Strasbourg are sitting in the mid-table and will not be able to offer European football next season, something which might see the full-back make a move, especially with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal interested in him.

The report adds that the Frenchman could be available for as little as €10million. That being said, Manchester City should beat Arsenal to sign Kenny Lala in the summer.

City’s first-choice right-back is Kyle Walker, who was signed from Tottenham in the summer of 2017. Walker has been a regular fixture in Guardiola’s team for the past two seasons. He has been in good form this season as well, making 44 appearances in all competitions thus far.

But Walker has rarely got a breather due to the hectic schedule and also because of Danilo’s underwhelming performances.

Danilo has not performed as per his potential whenever given an opportunity by Guardiola. The Brazilian was signed from Real Madrid as a back-up for Walker, but he has not lived up to the expectations of the fans at the Etihad Stadium.

Hence, Guardiola would be wise to offload Danilo at the end of the season and replace him with Lala. Lala has been one of the stars of the French top-flight this season and his performances have helped Strasbourg climb up to 10th place in the table.

Blessed with blistering pace and top dribbling abilities, Lala is an aggressive right-back, who can also operate as a wing-back and a right-sided midfielder. The 27-year-old possesses a terrific right foot, with which he can deliver dangerous crosses into the box and dribble past defenders in wide areas with ease.

He is very direct in his approach towards the goal, meaning defenders often endure a tough time marking him. The Frenchman is also an expert set-piece taker, be it penalties or free-kicks, which adds more value to his name.

Truly, Lala has all the qualities to succeed at an elite European club and a move to Manchester City would be a step in the right direction for him.

Verdict

City already have arguably the best right-back in the Premier League in the form of Walker. But, Guardiola needs someone to act as a rotation option for Walker, whilst also being able to push the Englishman to the next level.

Lala would be the answer to that problem, as he will not only add quality to the squad but also bring some much-needed competition for Walker. Hence, City should go all out to sign him from Strasbourg.
