It has been a tough campaign for Anastasia Potapova so far but she has managed to keep on fighting. Both her matches went to the third set as she had to show a lot of grit and determination to prevail.

In the first round, Marina Bassols Ribera gave Potapova a tough time. After going down in the first set, the Russian star bounced back strongly to dominate sets one and two as she won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. In the round of 16, Potapova faced the talented Frenchwoman Clara Burel. Potapova won the first set but Burel fought back to win the second set. In the end, it was Potapova who managed to hold her nerves to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Maryna Zanevska

After disappointing campaigns in the Hobart International and the Australian Open, Zanevska has played excellent tennis so far in the Lyon Open.

In the first round, Zanevska started with a dominating performance to win the first set against Dalma Galfi. The second set was a tight one but Zanevska won in the tiebreak. The match finished 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) in favor of the Belgian star. The 29-year-old faced Chinese veteran Zhang Shuai in the round of 16. This was expected to be a tough encounter for Zanevska. However, she played a near-perfect game and defeated the 2nd seed in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
