Wright was only 34 years old at the time of his death in 2010. But the heartbreaking story of Wright’s killing grabbed headlines after his ex-wife, Sherra, pleaded guilty to facilitating the shooting of the former NBA star.

The Los Angeles Clippers picked Wright in the first round as the 7th overall player in the 1996 NBA Draft. He went on to play with the Hawks, Grizzlies, Kings and Cavs before calling it quits in 2009.

Lorenzen Wright death: What happened to the former NBA star?

According to reports, Wright was last seen on July 18, 2010. The former NBA star was on his way to visit his children at his ex-wife, Sherra’s home in Collierville, near Memphis, shortly before midnight.

But Wright’s trip turned into a nightmare and he was believed to have been killed on July 19, 2010, after gunshots were heard during his call to the police. The ex-NBA star’s body was then later found in a foresty area in southeast Memphis nine days later.

Although the case of Wright’s death went cold for a number of years after the initial investigation, his ex-wife pleaded guilty to facilitation of his death in 2019. In exchange for her plea, Sherra received a 30-year sentence.

In March this year, Billy Ray Turner was also found guilty in the Lorenzen Wright death case. Turner was found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy.
