Why Blackburn Rovers must make a move to sign Adam Wilson on loan

According to The Chronicle, Blackburn Rovers are interested in a move to sign Newcastle United sensation Adam Wilson.

He is yet to make an appearance for the Newcastle first-team but Adam Wilson is already highly sought after (h/t The Chronicle). Still just 18, the winger has impressed in the Premier League 2, making 6 appearances so far this season. He was also called up to the England U18 squad last March, after impressing coach Neil Dewsnip.

Often playing on the left-wing, Wilson’s versatility has proven attractive since he’s equally comfortable operating at left-back. When deployed in a deeper role, the youngster has more space to run with the ball.

Blackburn seem to be the most interested party in securing his services (h/t The Chronicle) right now. To make matters more interesting, Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray also has strong connections in the area – he is a former captain and coach for Middlesbrough.

Fortunately for the Magpies, Wilson is currently tied down to a long-term contract, meaning it will take a lucrative offer to lure him away. Perhaps the chance to play regular first-team football, albeit in the Championship, could sway the youngster.

As things stand, the Tynesiders are at the bottom of the table in the Premier League and are still without a win. Regardless, chances of receiving adequate first-team action at St James’ Park looks hopelessly slim for Wilson at this point. Hence, moving to Blackburn could be the best for him in terms of gaining valuable experience.

Newcastle, however, will be hoping he stays and makes a name for himself in their own squad. After all, it is high time for the club to nurture some new and exciting talent from their youth squads. Only Paul Dummett and Andy Carroll have managed to make the step up in recent years.

That said, Wilson seems to possess all the skill and ambition to follow in their footsteps. Hence, a loan move could be a great deal for the player but the Magpies must be shrewd and ensure his long-term future lies only with them.
