Liverpool Opinion: Sergio Ramos and VVD would be simply impenetrable

According to a recent report from The Daily Mail, Real Madrid’s long-serving captain Sergio Ramos could be nearing his exit from the Santiago Bernabeu and it is being suggested that Liverpool are considering a move to potentially pair him with PFA Player of the Year Virgil Van Dijk in the Premier League next season.

Sergio Ramos certainly didn’t have the best season in the heart of the defence for Madrid. Although he’s not entirely to blame for the chaos that ensued in the Spanish capital, he will have to take a certain degree of responsibility.

With Zinedine Zidane now back at the helm, there is a question about Ramos’ long-term future.

It has also been suggested that there were multiple disputes between the Spaniard and the club this season, with one of them even ending in a heated argument after their shocking Champions League exit at the hands of a young Ajax side. With Ramos reconsidering his future, a flurry of the biggest clubs are looking to stake their claims.

With Jurgen Klopp looking to improve his side in order to challenge for the Premier League title again next season, the purchase of a quality centre-half will certainly be at the top of his agenda.

Despite the bad blood between Sergio Ramos and Liverpool following last season’s Champions League final, Jurgen Klopp is said to be hoping to pair Ramos and the Reds’ star man Virgil Van Dijk in defence next season.

Considering that Liverpool conceded so few goals this season, the addition of a player like Ramos would make them almost unbeatable.

The Spaniard has a vast amount of experience at the top level and the number of crucial goals he’s scored for club and country proves just how important a player he is.

Although he’s a defender, Ramos certainly knows how to make his presence felt in the opposition’s box as well. His ability to leap and head the ball from set-pieces have won Real Madrid many matches over the years.

The 33-year-old has been one of Europe’s best defenders for a long time now and the acquisition of a player of his quality would be a massive statement of intent from this Liverpool team.

The fact the his 28 La Liga games this season have yielded 6 goals and 2 assists will only come as added motivation as a move for Ramos seems like a complete no-brainer from a Liverpool perspective.
