Why Pedro Brazao would be a good long-term signing for Liverpool

According to RMC Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Liverpool are weighing up a bid for Portuguese wonder kid Pedro Brazao, who currently plies his trade with OGC Nice in the French top-flight.

German heavyweights Bayern Munich are also hot on trail of the 17-year-old while Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to offer him a chance to further his development in France. Elsewhere, Sporting Lisbon are willing to offer the teenager a return to his homeland. (RMC Sport h/t Daily Mail)

Liverpool have already completed two new acquisitions in the winter market, having roped in Takumi Minamino from RB Salzburg and striker Joe Hardy from Brentford.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Pedro Brazao started his footballing education in his homeland before moving across the continent to join Nice at the youth level back in 2017 and has since caught the eye with his rapid development.

Having impressed across various age-group levels, the teenager was handed his first professional contract in April 2019 and made his senior debut in the Ligue 1 against Caen towards the back end of the previous campaign.

The 17-year-old has largely featured for Nice’s reserve side in the third-tier this season, having played only once off the bench for Patrick Vieira’s senior side in the ongoing campaign. Meanwhile, the Reds recently grabbed the headlines with deals for Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott from PEC Zwolle and Fulham respectively this past summer.

A left-footed left-winger by trade, Brazao has also illustrated the versatility to play out wide on the right flank and also through the centre in a No.10 role behind the striker.

The Portuguese U19 international is still in his formative years but his development in France simply cannot be ignored. The fact that he has already started to rub shoulders with the seniors at the tender age of 17 is indicative of a level of maturity that belies his years.

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t hesitated to call upon the club’s academy prospects in the domestic cup fixtures this season, with Curtis Jones netting a sensational winner against an experienced Everton side in the FA Cup earlier in the month.
