Leicester City Opinion: Why the Foxes should go all out to sign Elif Elmas?

According to Turkish outlet Spor Arena, Leicester City are interested in signing Fenerbahce starlet Elif Elmas in the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old midfielder is one of the stars of the future but it will not be easy to prise away the youngster, with Tottenham, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich amongst a host of European clubs having already followed him, adds the report.

During this campaign, Elif Elmas has played 34 matches in all competitions, scoring one goal from the middle of the park as Fenerbahce will be looking to avoid the drop this season. He has been one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Fenerbahce.

Brendan Rodgers

Leicester are believed to be interested in signing the teenage sensation as Brendan Rodgers hopes to reinforce his squad in the squad.

The Foxes have been inconsistent this campaign and currently lie 10th in the table, just three points off seventh-placed Wolves. They have enough quality in the squad to finish inside top eight but if the team is to challenge the Big Six next season, they surely need additions in the summer transfer window.

Rodgers’ side have an exciting attacking unit but it’s the midfield that needs strengthening. Wilfred Ndidi and Nampalys Mendy are excellent holding midfielders, while Youri Tielemans has been inspired addition on loan from AS Monaco.

Even if Leicester sign Tielemans permanently at the end of the season, they need another ball-carrier in the midfield and Elmas would be perfect for that role.

Elmas is a versatile central midfielder who has played in different positions across the pitch under Phillip Cocu and then Ersun Yanal this season. Primarily a box-to-box midfielder, the 19-year-old can play in a holding role as well as in an advanced role. He is a good passer of the ball, has good technique and can drive forward with the ball through the middle of the park.

The Skopje-born ace is a tireless runner, covers a lot of ground and his energy combined with his ball-playing abilities make him a worthy transfer target.

Not only that, playing in an advanced role in midfield or in the holding role makes Elmas responsible for moving the play forward, and he does that with utmost comfort despite being just 19. His maturity and understanding of the game at such a tender age is really brilliant.

Verdict

Elmas has already shown his quality and with time and proper guidance, can become a world-beater. He is only 19 but the way he plays, anticipates danger, moves across the field and dictates the tempo of games makes him look like an experienced, seasoned campaigner.

Without any second thoughts, Leicester should do everything possible to lure the teenage prodigy to the King Power Stadium this summer.
