Leeds United Opinion: Why the Whites should go all out for Luke Freeman?

According to a report from London Football News, Leeds United are ready to make a bid for Queens Park Rangers attacker Luke Freeman.

The versatile 27-year-old made 43 appearances in the Championship for QPR this season, scoring seven goals and providing six assists in the process. He put in an impressive display against Leeds at Loftus Road as well.

QPR will not want to lose Freeman on a cheap this summer—the playmaker was the London club’s player of the year and extended his contract last year. Given his experience and the consistent performances for QPR over the last couple of seasons, Leeds must go all out to sign Freeman this summer.

The Whites narrowly missed out on promotion last season, chiefly due to injuries, fatigue and poor form of some key players during the business end of 2018/19. They will undoubtedly be favourites for promotion next season, but they may fall short in their top-flight ambitions if Marcelo Bielsa fails to bring in adequate reinforcements.

Bielsa will know by now that squad depth is very important if his team are to last an entire season. Hence, he must identify players that are definite improvements on what he already has in the squad. Leeds have already seen two of their wide midfield options, Jack Harrison and Izzy Brown, depart since the end of the season.

That makes it imperative to bolster the forward department and Luke Freeman would be a perfect fit at the Elland Road. Able to play in the no.10 role or out wide, the 27-year-old will adhere to Bielsa’s preference of versatile players. Blessed with decent pace and power, he has the ability to pick the right pass in the final third and chip in with crucial goals for his teams.

Freeman has a wealth of Championship experience, and he would be a fantastic addition to Bielsa’s squad next season. Not only will he bolster the Whites’ attacking department but also add depth to the squad.

The ex-Arsenal starlet could also turn out to be a replacement for Leeds’ creator-in-chief, Pablo Hernandez, who is 34 and slowly edging towards the final stages of his career.

Verdict

Freeman, one of the Championship football’s consistent performers in the last few seasons, boasts all the necessary attributes required to be able to hit the ground running under Bielsa at Leeds. It remains to be seen whether the Yorkshire giants can lure him away from Loftus Road this summer.
