Leeds United Opinion: Why the Whites should go all out for Ivan Cavaleiro?

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Wolves could be ready to sell Ivan Cavaleiro this summer.

The Portuguese forward, 25, was an integral part during Wolves’ promotion-winning season in the Championship. However, he managed just six starts in the Premier League as Ivan Cavaleiro fell down the pecking order this season. A move to play regular first-team football somewhere else seems like a viable option.

The report claims Cavaleiro is surplus to requirements at the Molineux. That being said, Leeds United must reignite their interest and sign the Portuguese speedster in the summer.

Ivan Cavaleiro

Back in January, Cavaleiro was heavily linked with a move to Leeds United. The Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa wanted to sign him on loan until the end of the campaign; however, a move didn’t materialise.

Leeds United need to start preparing for the next season after missing out a place in the Premier League following their surprise play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County. It now appears, however, that Bielsa is likely to have a second attempt at bringing Premier League football back to Elland Road, with the Yorkshire Evening Post claiming that the Argentine is increasingly confident of staying at the club for another season.

The highly-experienced Bielsa staying at Elland Road will be a huge boost for Leeds. He has worked wonders to get the Whites in contention for promotion this season and while he failed to get his team over the line, the veteran tactician has now got an idea of what needs to be done to achieve promotion next term.

Defeat to Derby County showed there is plenty of room for development for the Yorkshire giants. Reinforcements are indeed required and signing Cavaleiro would be a step in the right direction for Leeds.

Cavaleiro was one of Wolves’ star performers in their promotion-winning campaign last year, contributing with nine goals and 13 assists.

That means he has solid experience of Championship football and could make a massive difference at Leeds. The Portuguese would be an excellent addition to Bielsa’s side, bringing bundles of pace, power and energy. His rapid pace would be ideal to bring a spark to the Leeds attack.

Barring Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford, Leeds don’t have options up front which makes signing a striker important. Cavaleiro would give Bielsa an option, as the ex-Monaco winger is versatile enough to lead the line on his own.

Verdict

Cavaleiro will certainly improve Leeds’ attack and it’s a signing Bielsa simply cannot ignore, as the Whites bid to win the Championship next season.
