Leeds United Opinion: Whites should reignite their interest in Albert Adomah

Back last year, a report from Birmingham Mail claimed that Leeds United were interested in signing Albert Adomah from Aston Villa. However, a move to Elland Road failed to materialize for the veteran and he stayed put at Villa Park.

Adomah enjoyed a wonderful run in the Championship last season, contributing with 14 goals and 5 assists to help the Lions secure a spot in the promotion playoffs. However, his career has been in a downward spiral this term, with the 31-year-old accumulating just 2 goals and 2 assists from 28 appearances in the league.

Adomah, who joined Villa from Middlesbrough in 2016, racked up as many as 17 goals and 15 assists in the Championship in his first two seasons at the club and established himself as a key first-team player.

The Ghanaian has started 17 games in the Championship for Villa this season but he is no longer a regular starter for the Lions under Dean Smith, and with his contract at Villa Park set to expire in 2020, the veteran might as well start looking for options elsewhere.

To put things into perspective, Championship high-flyers Leeds United should reignite their interest in the experienced and versatile attacker this summer in a bid to add more depth and quality to their attacking options.

Adomah has loads of experience of playing in the Championship and Leeds can certainly benefit from his presence as a useful squad player should they manage to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Adomah doesn’t have much Premier League experience but it wouldn’t be a bad time for him to make the step up at the ripe age of 31. Known for his pace, power, directness, trickery and sharpness on the ball, Adomah is a versatile winger who has the ability to play out wide on either flank.

An accurate crosser from the wide areas blessed with a good eye for goal, Adomah is a tireless worker down the flanks who contributes equally to both attack and defence.

Marcelo Bielsa likes his wingers to run at the opposition’s full-backs with pace and directness, often adopting a high-pressing philosophy to take the opposition out of the game.

Adomah, with his pace, skills and work rate, should be a perfect fit for Leeds United and his experience might prove to be a deciding factor in their bid for survival in the top flight next season, assuming that they manage to end their 15-year-long absence from the Premier League.

Man City loanee Jack Harrison hasn’t done an awful lot at Elland Road this season while youngster Jack Clarke has certainly made a positive impact with his energetic displays. Veteran Pablo Hernández continues to be one of the mainstays of Leeds’ attack but the Peacocks need to bolster their wide options in the summer.

Leeds would need to spend big in the summer to improve their squad if they manage to secure promotion, and Adomah, though not a top-quality player at 31, is more than capable of bringing in some much-needed experience as a decent squad player.
