Leeds United Opinion: Why Leeds should go all out to sign Ben White

According to a report from Leeds Live, Leeds United have been handed a major transfer boost in the pursuit of Brighton defender Ben White.

The report claims that the Seagulls are ready to loan out the 21-year-old in order to seal the signing of Portsmouth centre-back Matt Clarke.

Ben White 2

White’s excellent loan spell with Newport County accentuated his stance as one of the brightest talents in League One. He went on to play more than 40 appearances and received plaudits for his string of wonderful displays.

The English youngster recently concluded his loan spell with fellow League One club Peterborough United, making 15 appearances. An academy graduate of the Seagulls, White has been deprived of first-team chances since 2016. He also featured in Brighton’s U-23 side last season, bagging 4 assists.

Should Leeds make a move for White?

The Whites weren’t at their best in terms of defence in the recently concluded campaign, which saw them losing a well-placed promotion opportunity.

Regardless of the presence of some big names like Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper, Leeds failed to pull the strings together in the final phase of the Championship.

To be more precise, the Whites conceded a total of 15 goals in the final 10 games in which they ended on losing side in 5 games, a stat which begs to be looked.

Bielsa2

Marcelo Bielsa is prepping up for some serious reinforcements as he is keen on handing the West Yorkshire club promotion to Premier League next season.

With that being said, Brighton’s promising centre-back would be a fruitful addition to the Argentine manager, who hasn’t ceased admiring the young talents.

Though it looks uncertain to beat the likes of  Cooper and Swedish international Jansson, the seagulls’ talent can win his place in the starting 11 by quick progress.

My Verdict

The Elland Road outfit has been targeting some young talents in recent times rather than going for big-money signings, a method which seems to be smart and productive.

And the Peacocks should not have any second thoughts on the signing of White, who has the tendency to succeed the 28-year-old Jansson in quick time.
