Why Josh King would be a perfect fit at Leeds United

Former Leeds United star Danny Mills has urged the club to make a move for Bournemouth forward Josh King in the summer, according to Football Insider (h/t Yorkshire Post).

King, 28, has established himself as one of the best forwards in English football after making over 250 appearances in England across various clubs. The former Manchester United academy graduate played for Blackburn Rovers and Hull City in the Championship before joining the Cherries in the summer of 2015. Since then, he has been an integral member of the squad.

The Norwegian has been in fine form in the last three seasons and has gone from strength to strength since leaving United. He struggled with injuries this season but he was one of the best players in the squad despite Bournemouth’s poor performances that led to them to relegation. Thus, Leeds should pay attention to their former player and lure King to Elland Road at the earliest.

King – A reliable and consistent striker

It is clear that most of Leeds’ main players were on loan and they don’t have the required depth. Both the wingers – Helder Costa and Jack Harrison arrived on loan and have done a splendid job in their title-winning campaign. Apart from them, Ivan Poveda is the only other winger available at Bielsa’s disposal.

Whereas, in the centre-forward role, Patrick Bamford is the only option. Tyler Roberts seems to have adapted to the attacking midfield role, leaving just one striker in their ranks. But with limited options up front, Leeds could feel the heat when they play in the Premier League next season. Thus, bringing in a forward in the summer would pay off well for the club.

In that regard, signing King would be a fantastic move by the club. The Norwegian has scored more than 10 goals in each of the last two league campaigns and also continued with the fine form this season. But despite his injury issues, he managed to rack up 6 goals and 4 assists. Now that the Cherries are related, Leeds should look to sign him to continue in the top-flight.

He could be a crucial player for the Whites next season as he has got some experience in the top-flight. They can rely on him for goals and the fact that he is capable of operating from both the middle and the right side of the attack should be a huge bonus for the manager.

Verdict

With limited options in their attacking unit, it is clear that Leeds are in dire need of reinforcements to bolster their attacking unit. And given King’s consistency over the last few years, he could perfectly fit into the squad. Thus, they must do everything to land the Norway international this summer.
