Knox played college basketball for the University of Kentucky from 2017 to 2018. Knox had a decent college career and was subsequently named to the First-team All-SEC (2018).

Then on April 6, 2018, Knox declared for the 2018 NBA draft, forgoing his final three years of college eligibility.
